The Scottish Fold cat has a very appealing face due to its forward-tilted ears. However, this cute aspect of the breed is achieved through a genetic defect that affects not only the ear cartilage, but more or less all the bones and the entire cartilage tissue of the cat (osteochondrodysplasia). The result is bone and Joint inflammation, which lead to deformities of the legs and back, up to immobility and, to a high degree, to constant Pain even in young animals. The genetic defect is inherited dominantly, i.e. all offspring, even if one parent is not a carrier of the genetic defect, are affected.
Consequently, the breeding of this breed is prohibited in many countries and illegal breeding should not be supported by the purchase of puppies. Anyone who may have been carried away by ignorance to buy a Scottish Fold will regret it by experiencing the suffering of these animals, the constant veterinary costs without a cure being possible, and the early Death of the animals.
