What is the Symptom Checker?
Our Symptom Checker is a groundbreaking AI (Artificial Intelligence) tool for assessing disease symptoms in dogs and cats.
It is based on software we developed that allows you to find disease information matching your dog’s or cat’s symptoms within minutes. The program asks you a series of questions and, after processing your answers, provides a list of diseases and disorders that best match the symptoms you’ve described. Links allow you to directly access detailed information on symptoms, diseases, and further explanations. In this way, the Symptom Checker can help you better assess your pets’ health problems, monitor the course of disorders, and support their overall health. For particularly threatening symptoms and diseases, the software also provides a special warning.
- Check symptoms in dogs and cats and look for possible causes
- Monitor the course of disorders and ensure your pet’s healthy well-being.
- Get answers to individual health questions about your pet.
- Prepare specifically for a vet visit and get information after a vet visit.
If you don’t find the desired answer with the Symptom Checker or want specific questions answered, you can also chat with our virtual veterinarian “Petsie”. You’ll find them at the bottom right of your screen.
How Does the petsvetcheck Symptom Checker Work?
Our Symptom Checker uses Artificial Intelligence methods.
With our Symptom Checker for dogs and cats, a unique interactive program in small animal medicine is available free of charge on our website. The Symptom Checker covers a total of 2,400 symptoms for dogs and cats, more than 1,100 diseases, and an almost unmanageable number of possible combinations. We developed the Symptom Checker in collaboration with the software development company Softwerk AB in Sweden. Based on your input, the Symptom Checker calculates possible causes of disease for the symptoms specified and lists them according to their likelihood.
Afterwards, you can find out more about Symptoms:, Diseases:, Emergencies, Poisonings: and news in the field of small animal medicine on our website, as the Symptom Checker is part of our Small Animal Medicine network.
Please note that the Symptom Checker does not want to and cannot provide diagnoses!
What can the Symptom Checker help you with?
Would you like to recognize the symptoms in your dog or cat and better understand what they mean? Would you like to prepare for your next vet visit or find out more about your vet’s diagnosis?
What exact steps are necessary for this?
We will guide you through a scientifically developed questionnaire. Please be patient!
- Please select whether you are looking for information about dogs or cats. Click on the corresponding pictogram.
- In which body region do the symptoms primarily occur? Click on the body region in the pictogram or tick the corresponding box. Multiple selections are possible. Example: Your cat primarily shows symptoms in the head and neck area (nasal discharge, watery eyes), but also Cough. You can therefore select the chest (lungs) in addition to the head and neck area. The body regions are now selected in color (dark blue). If you made a mistake, the selection can be removed by clicking again.
- Please click on: “What symptoms have you noticed?” Here we ask you about some common symptoms. At the end of each question, there is a question mark. Here you can get information about the symptom.
- Using follow-up questions, the AI calculates the probabilities of possible diseases as causes for the symptoms you mentioned. Please be patient and further narrow down the search for the cause of the symptoms you mentioned.
- For the diseases suggested by the AI, the respective probabilities are given, indicating how likely these diseases or disorders are responsible for the observed symptoms.
