Polycythemia is a blood disorder characterized by an increased number of red blood cells in the bloodstream. This can lead to increased blood viscosity and cause problems such as blood clots, strokes, or heart attacks. In dogs and cats, polycythemia can be primary (as a stand-alone disease) or secondary (as a reaction to other conditions).
