Colitis is an inflammation of the large intestine (colon). Symptoms can include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and blood in the stool. Colitis can be caused by infections, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, or other causes.
