Chemodectomas are rare, mostly benign tumors that originate from the chemoreceptive cells (sensory cells) of the body, which respond to changes in the chemical composition of the blood, such as oxygen or carbon dioxide levels. In dogs and cats, they typically occur in the heart or along the large blood vessels.
