What are Symptoms and What Do They Mean?

  • Symptoms are signs of diseases or functional disorders in the body. In animals, some can already be perceived through careful observation of the animal.
  • Further symptoms are identified through a professional examination and supplemented by findings from additional examinations such as laboratory diagnostics, imaging procedures, and other special tests.
  • Since each disease is associated with specific symptoms and findings, their analysis leads to the diagnosis of a disease or a specific functional disorder.
  • For diseases in dogs and cats, we provide you with the associated symptoms that you, as a pet owner, can see, feel, smell, or hear. Our symptom list is supplemented by some symptoms that only a veterinarian can detect, but which you may already be aware of from a previous vet visit with your pet.
  • We show you general symptoms that can occur with many diseases, special symptoms that are observed with significantly fewer diseases, and symptoms that are very typical for a disease.
