There are many poisonous plants for dogs and cats in nature, in the house, or in the garden. The sago palm (cycad), which has recently become popular as a houseplant, is one of them. Cats, in particular, are at risk because they like to nibble on plants, and the palm’s growth form practically encourages cats to nibble.
Symptoms of poisoning from sago palm poisoning can include:
- Persistent Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Increased salivation (drooling)
- Abdominal pain (Restlessness)
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy
- Muscle twitching
- Tremors
- Coordination disorders (Unsteady gait)
- Cardiac arrhythmia in severe cases
You can find other important sources of poisoning for dogs and cats in our book “Poisoning in Dogs and Cats – A veterinary Guides”.
