Quick and correct action can save lives, prevent serious consequential damage, and safely bridge the time until veterinary treatment. Especially in the first few minutes, it is often decided whether an animal remains stable or its condition deteriorates dramatically.

Many pet owners are uncertain in an emergency – not out of indifference, but because practical knowledge is lacking. Those who know the basics of first aid can react more calmly and in a more structured manner. This not only protects the animal, but also reduces stress and panic in an already stressful situation.

It is also important: First aid does not replace veterinary treatment. It serves to secure the most important functions and prevent further damage until professional help is available. Incorrect measures, on the other hand, can cause harm – which is why it is worthwhile to learn the most important techniques reliably.

A first aid course for pet owners is a very useful preparation for this. In such courses, basic measures are taught in a practical way, so that you don’t have to improvise in an emergency. Courses are available, for example, through veterinary practices, veterinary hospitals, dog schools, or animal welfare organizations.

Important immediate measures in an emergency

Keep Calm and React Correctly

In emergency situations, panic is a bad advisor.
